How to fix T-Mobile’s Samsung Vibrant GPS Issues (Easy)

samsung-vibrant-front-small
We’ve received various reports that the GPS on the Samsung Vibrant is broken out of the box. Locking on to a GPS signal can take can take a while, if it does at all, and the location can be rather inaccurate at that. The folks at XDA-Developers have figured out a quick fix that won’t require doing any serious modifications to your phone’s software. Samsung says they are working on an update proper to fix the GPS issues with the phone, but for now just follow these instructions to get yours acting the way it should.
  1. Navigate to Settings > Location & Security and uncheck the box next to “Use Wireless Networks.”
  2. Go to the phone’s dialer and enter the number *#*#1472365#*#* then press send to access the phones LBSTestMode menu.
  3. In the LBSTestMode menu, press “Application Settings” and change “Operation Mode” to “MS Based.”
  4. Navigate to the “SUP/LCP Settings” and the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com (make sure NOT to place “www.” in front) and port 7276.
  5. Make sure the settings are saved and reboot your phone.
  6. Navigate back to Settings > Location & Security and check the box next to “Use Wireless Networks.”
GalaxySLBsTestMode
And that should do it. This fix is also confirmed to work on the Samsung Captivate, but attempting to replicate this on the international Galaxy S I had no luck. If the fix doesn’t seem to work for you and you’d like to reset to your old setting repeate the same process but use the following information at the LBSTestMode menu:
  • Operation Mode: Standalone
  • SERVER: www.spirent-lcs.com
  • PORT: 7275
If all else fails, you may just have to wait for an update to be issued for the fix, but hopefully this will set your wayfaring GPS straight.

APK Edit v0.4, allows you to edit your apk file

APK Edit v0.4e
---------------------------------------------------------

Ever wanted to simply change an icon on your Android phone and found yourself lost in the endless lists of forum posts saying: you have to change heaven and earth to do this...
NOT ANYMORE!!!!

APK Edit is born!
(BTW, APK Edit has a child on its own now... I called him: File To Barcode)
If you like it, celebrate with me

With this little program you can simply change icons of your android application.
It even lets you change the applications name.
But wait mike..... there's more.....
It even lets you edit the text used in applications.

Sounds to good to be true...
Well... to be honest.... it is.
But I've come a long way from that initial question to the final answer.
My conclusion so far, it works for most of my applications.
It probably will work on most of yours as well.

Try it out now!

(Caution: when overwriting an existing application you will loose your associated data!!!)

Special thanks goes out to:
Brut.all for creating Apktool, the backbone of this little project.

Requirements:
Java & .Net Framework 3.5 (Why build on one platform if you can build on two? I know, I know....)
For installing system apps - S-OFF

Nice to know:
Clicking on the [Icons:] tag in the General tab will open a browser window and search for icons in "Google images".
Donations will be "forwarded" to fellow developers like Brutt.all and others, reinforcing the greatness of today's world.

How the magic works:
When opening an APK file it first tries to decompile it using APK Tool (with the version selected in the settings tab)
If decompile failed, because of a missing framework file, it tries to find this file on your phone.
Most of the times it will find what its looking for, pull it off your phone and tries to recompile the whole thing again.
If somehow it cannot find the required framework file, it will provide you a list of possible files on your phone. You can then choose the correct file yourself.
Assuming this process finishes without any problem you now can edit the apk file.
When you press Apply it will recompile the apk and then sign the newly compiled file.
- System APK files (APK files that needed an additional framework file) will get a copy of the original signature.
- Other APK files will get a brand new signature.
When you Click the phone animation it will push the APK to your phone
- System APK files will be pushed to /system/app (ADB PUSH)
- Other APK files will be installed the normal way (ADB INSTALL)
If install failed due to some signature failure it will do some additional fancy tricks and try it again.

Upcoming features:
New option in settings tab -> Only allow one instance of APK Edit to open at once.
New option in settings tab -> Add/remove APK file association to registry.
New option on startup -> Option to open up a "Phone Explorer", lets you edit APK files directly from phone.

Known issues:
CarHomeGoogle.apk - Doesn't save changes
Quickoffice.apk - Doesn't show up after installing

[SCRIPT] The Best RAM Optimization

MORE SMOOTHNESS, MORE SPEED, LESS LAGS
AND
ENOUGH FREE MEMORY

Requirements: Root, Kernel which supports init.d

Hi guys,
after long time of testing I found the best balance for RAM, this script will make your RAM in the best optimization, the best optimization means the best balance between free memory, multitask, speed of launching apps and system speed. It means that you'll still have enough free memory (you'll have free memory as much as you need, because it is not good if you have really a lot of free memory, because Android's work with memory is different from other OS) and you can fully use your multitask, my script doesn't kill your app automatically when you minimize it. Your system and switching between apps or launching apps will be very fast.

Now you don't have to use Task Killer!

CHANGES

Lowmemorykiller values
-Values which mainly affect your multitask and free memory. Values of my script were made for combination of using multitask and still have enough free memory.

VM values
-Very important values which affect your battery consumption, system speed and speed of launching apps.

INSTALLATION

1. Method for creating

1) Make file and add this code to it, if you make this script on Windows, set EOL to UNIX, then save file and name it for example "S97ramscript", if you have in your init.d other file with "S97" in name so use "S98" or "S96", etc., the name of file must be without extension

2) Then put your file to /system/etc/init.d with Root Explorer and set perm to 777 (rwxrwxrwx), if you have in your init.d other script for RAM management for example Darky's rambooster, so delete it

3) Reboot your phone

2. Method for creating

1) Download attached file (Juwe_RAM_Script.zip) unzip it and put it to /system/etc/init.d with Root Explorer and set perm to 777 (rwxrwxrwx), if you have in your init.d other script for RAM management for example Darky's rambooster, so delete it

2) Reboot your phone

3. Method for creating

1) Download attached file (Juwe_RAM_Script-CWM.zip) and install it with CWM

HOW TO CHECK IF SCRIPT WORKS

Download app Galaxy Tuner or AutoKiller Memory Optimizer and check values:
LMK values
10MB, 16MB, 24MB, 48MB, 56MB, 72MB
VM values
50, 10, 5, 10, 90, 5

ROM devs can use my script in their ROMs, but give the proper credit.

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.4 (tethered) on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod Touch 3G and 4G

We all Apple lovers were waiting for the jailbreak of iOS 4.3.4, and yes, it comes to an end! Jailbreak iOS 4.3.4 works on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, and iPod Touch third and forth generation.
Jailbreak iOS 4.3.4 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod Touch 3G and 4GAs mentioned this is Tethered Technique and Untethered will take its time to arrive, till then we can use this and have our work done. Apple has just launched iOS 4.3.4. After a security update from Apple for its devices to close a security hole which was used by hackers to jailbreak the iPad 2 & other devices, it is tricky to use this method, still you can patch that security hole by installing the application from Cydia which is known as PDF Patcher 2.
Whatsoever if You want to have iOs 4.3.4 any damn way.. Here we goes.. Let me repeat one thing again, Folks it’s a tethered jailbreak that means you have to connect your Apple Device to a Computer and run the software anytime you reboot. If you are done with that, then you will need to grab the latest version of redsn0w and look for “Update 3” (for Mac, for Windows). The only reason to recommend redsnOw is it works with both Windows and Mac O.S.
We know that everybody is not GEEKS! So we come up with simple and easy step wise procedure for your jailbreak. So get, set and go….
First of all open the Redsn0w (N.B:- Windows Vista/7 users need to set compatibility as XP SP3, and run RedsnOw as Administrator.)
  1. Start by clicking on browse and find the 4.3.4 firmware file for your device.
  2. Click on next and let the firmware get processed.
  3. Now check the “Install Cydia”.
  4. Click on next, and it will appear that, “Make sure that your device is turned off. Prepare for DFU mode.”
  5. Click on next again, and then follow the DFU mode instructions.
  6. Now the process to jailbreak your device will get started.
  7. When the process will get completed, you will get notice that you cannot open Safari or Cydia. Need not to worry as this is very normal for a tethered jailbreak.
  8. It’s time to open redsn0w and follow steps 1 to 3 and then check “Just boot tethered for now”
  9. Follow the DFU instructions, and then it will start booting your device again. This time, you will notice Cydia and Safari is working.
Congrats, you have Jailbreaked iOS 4.3.4. One thing you don’t forget buddy is that this one is tethered jailbreak, which means if your device turns off or reboots, you need to boot tethered with steps 9.
Better bookmark this page and get it any time you need.
